The N-Word Poll Results - BPS Poll ResultsIn the "War Against "Nigga" ism," Black People Speak challenged the Black community to speak candidly about the use of the word "Nigga" in an attempt to either put and end to its use by making it socially unacceptable, or legitimize its use by submitting to mainstream opinion. The results were astonishing: take a look. The first task was to ask Black America if they use the word "Nigga" when referring to other Blacks:
48.46% said: No, never Results of the first question reveal that an overwhelming amount of Blacks prefer not to use the N-word as opposed to those who do, nevertheless, an equal amount confess to using the N-word at times. When asked: Do you believe Blacks use this term toward other Blacks mostly for fun or mostly out of anger:
23.26% answered: Mostly for fun From the two concrete answers, more Blacks believe that the N-word is used mostly for fun rather than in anger yet the majority believe it is a little of both, thus concluding that the use of the word is more reactive than intentional. When asked: Do you believe whites should be able to use the term "Nigga" toward Blacks?
96.90% said: No, never Whites should not use the N-word when referring to Blacks regardless of the minority 3% answer; it would be unacceptable to do so. When asked: Do you believe "Nigga" and nigger generally means the same thing?
61.24% answered: Yes, it does More Blacks believe that the two terms - Nigger and Nigga - mean the same thing in derogatory terms than do 38% of Blacks who believe they have different meanings in an attempt to justify using the term harmlessly. When asked: Are you offended when someone calls you a "Nigga" either for fun or out of anger?
53.49% answered: Yes, I am More Blacks take offense to the term "Nigga" whether jokingly or not than the 4% who take no offense, yet, 41% can absorb the term depending on circumstances. Yet not when whites use the term. When asked: Would you support a campaign against the use of "Nigga" by our people for our people?
78.91% said: Yes, I would Regardless of who, what, and why the term is used, the majority of Blacks support a campaign against the term's use as opposed to a fraction of those who could care less. From thence we begin the campaign. When asked: Of the definitions below, which one would you say describes a "Nigga"?
11.81% answered: Anyone Black Of the five choices given, more believe that the term refers to no form of anyone Black than do the others who pinpointed a stereotype.
